It is native to western North America and is also known as Douglas-fir, Douglas spruce, Oregon pine, and Columbian pine. There are three varieties: coast Douglas-fir (P. menziesii var. menziesii), Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir (P. menziesii var. glauca) and Mexican Douglas-fir (P. menziesii var. lindleyana).\nDespite its common names, it is not a true fir (genus Abies), spruce (genus Picea), or pine (genus Pinus). It is also not a hemlock; the genus name Pseudotsuga means \"false hemlock\".","gbif_id":2685796,"image_thumbnail":"https://treescape.app/media/plant_species/images/thumbnails/pseudotsuga-menziesii_thumbnail_soOw6Sm.jpg","image_large":"https://treescape.app/media/plant_species/images/large/pseudotsuga-menziesii_thumbnail_sZ24qZy.jpg","properties":{"height_maximum":"100.00","height_confidence":"0.9","height_source":"https://treescape.app/api/sources/1238/?format=json","width_minimum":null,"width_typical":"10.00","width_maximum":"20.00","width_confidence":"0.8","width_source":"https://treescape.app/api/sources/1238/?format=json","soil_acidity_minimum":null,"soil_acidity_typical":"6.50","soil_acidity_maximum":"7.00","soil_acidity_confidence":"0.7","soil_acidity_source":"https://treescape.app/api/sources/1238/?format=json","climate_zones":["https://treescape.app/api/climatezones/temperate-oceanic-climate-or-subtropical-highland-climate/?format=json"],"growth_habits":["https://treescape.app/api/growthhabits/tree/?format=json"],"human_uses":["https://treescape.app/api/humanuses/firewood/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/humanuses/timber/?format=json"],"ecological_roles":["https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/carbon-sequestration/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/habitat-provision/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/shade-provision/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/soil-erosion-control/?format=json"],"soil_preferences":[],"propagation_methods":[]}}
