Pinus oocarpa var. ochoterenae Martínez; Pinus patula Schiede & Deppe spp. tecunumanii Eguiluz & Perry) is a timber tree native to Mexico and Central America. It grows from the highlands of Chiapas and Oaxaca through Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras  to Nicaragua (17° to 14° North latitude). It occurs in two separated populations in their native habitats. The high-altitude group grows at 1500–2900 m, and the low-altitude group at 500–1500 m.\nThe wood is yellowish.  This species has been cultivated in several subtropical parts of the world for the paper industry. Cultivation trials have shown that high-elevation sources are the most productive. It grows well in Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and South Africa.\nP. tecunumanii was formerly classified as a subspecies of Pinus patula, but DNA analysis has shown that it is a different species, closer to Pinus oocarpa.","gbif_id":5285629,"image_thumbnail":"https://treescape.app/media/plant_species/images/thumbnails/pinus-tecunumanii_thumbnail_zuNSDDC.jpg","image_large":"https://treescape.app/media/plant_species/images/large/pinus-tecunumanii_thumbnail_iXUGopT.jpg","properties":{"height_maximum":"30.00","height_confidence":"0.9","height_source":"https://treescape.app/api/sources/1183/?format=json","width_minimum":null,"width_typical":null,"width_maximum":null,"width_confidence":null,"width_source":null,"soil_acidity_minimum":null,"soil_acidity_typical":null,"soil_acidity_maximum":null,"soil_acidity_confidence":null,"soil_acidity_source":null,"climate_zones":["https://treescape.app/api/climatezones/tropical-rainforest-climate/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/climatezones/tropical-monsoon-climate/?format=json"],"growth_habits":["https://treescape.app/api/growthhabits/tree/?format=json"],"human_uses":["https://treescape.app/api/humanuses/fiber/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/humanuses/timber/?format=json"],"ecological_roles":["https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/carbon-sequestration/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/habitat-provision/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/shade-provision/?format=json","https://treescape.app/api/ecologicalroles/soil-erosion-control/?format=json"],"soil_preferences":[],"propagation_methods":[]}}
